Play- May's theme of the month!

This month our theme is PLAY!

Often overlooked in our asana practice, play is an integral part of the learning process.

Did you know that play encourages experimentation, improves memory, and can help us devlop motor skill function? It can also aid in developing our balance and co-ordination!

We're also much more likely to retain and be able to repeat a skill if it was learnt with a positive association.

How do we bring that in to our yoga practice?

We can change the intention of our asana practice to be more exploratory, more joyful, and focus. a little less of the outcome.

How?

By looking at the yoga asana as a vehicle of self exploration. It might be trying poses such as arm-balanaces or inversions, (poses we typically associate with childhood play) or perhaps just taking a short sequence and seeing how we can invite in a little more playfulness. Perhaps repeating the same sequence but playing with making the transitions completely different! The options are endless!

Why?

As well as the above, play encourages us to be beginners once again- a valuable lesson for adults who have learnt to only practice what they are "good" at.

This month we'll be looking at ALL of the above. So join us for a live or catch up class to invite in a little more PLAY.
