AUGUST - SLOW AND STEADY (BUILDS RESILIENCE)

You may be thinking oh a month of taking it easy,  but you’d be mistaken!

While we are slowing down this month, we’re actually focusing more on building resilience in our practice.

Whilst we often hear the phrase “only do what feels good,” it actually can actually do us a disservice!

If we only practice what feels good, (often interpreted by us as easy) we end up practising our greatest hits. A collection of poses or flows that feel familiar and comfortable within our bodies.

Now there’s nothing wrong with comfort, but challenging both the body and the brain is necessary for adaptation and advancement. How do we know what truly feels good if we’re not at least occasionally moving outside our comfort zone? This month is all about that.

Moving deliberately slowly encourages us to build strength throughout the transitions, and is often where our balance and strength is tested. Longer held poses also encourages us to build resilience when we’re uncomfortable! Chair pose for more than 8 breaths feels horrible - but we learn something in the process!

Expect longer holds and slow flows this month!
